Autumn Term 2009
This term our topic is ....
COLOUR
We will be making the most of exciting opportunities and experiences to develop our skills during this topic. Here are just some of the skills we will be developing through the Foundation Phase this Autumn:
Language, Literacy and Communication Skills Mathematical Development - to listen to and carry out instructions - to use appropriate language in spontaneous and structured play activities and when conveying meaning - to experiment communicating by mark-making - to produce pieces of emergent writing - to communicate by using words, pictures and symbols - to listen and respond to stories with increasing attention and concentration - to develop a variety of mathematical approaches and strategies - to identify, collect and organise information in purposeful contexts - to select and use appropriate mathematical ideas, equipment and materials to solve practical problems Physical Development Knowledge and Understanding of the World - to develop gross motor skills using apparatus, bikes, trikes etc. - to increase co-ordination - to develop fine manipulative skills through activities such as cutting, sticking, drawing and colouring - to increase confidence and control over their own bodies - to explore and experiment - to identify simple comparisons and differences - to identify what they want to find out - to begin to think about 'What might happen if ...' - to begin to use the interactive whiteboard and class computer Creative Development Personal and Social Development - to explore and experiment with a variety of techniques and materials - to make choices when using materials and resources - to sing a range of songs with others - to recognise and describe sounds - to listen to and respond to music - to become independent in their personal hygiene needs - to become aware of and respect the needs of others - to develop an understanding of the behavioural expectations of the Nursery - to form relationships with other children and adults - to work and play co-operatively Welsh Language Development - to listen and respond simply to what they hear in familiar circumstances - to use simple words, greetings and expressions - to listen carefully to Welsh books, songs and tapes with growing attention For the first couple of weeks we are very busy settling into our new school and getting used to our Nursery rules. But from Monday 21st September we will begin our normal Nursery routine. Here are some important days to remember ... Tuesday - PE day. Please ensure your child wears suitable clothing for the physical activities (jogging bottoms, trainers). Friday - Nursery Woodland Learning day. We recommend your child is dressed in old clothing ready for fun in the Woodland area! Thank you for your continued support
